History of Mormonism: Temples
Temples are a pinnacle part of the history of Mormonism. Although all aspects of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are important and meaningful, the blessings of the temples are crucial for eternal happiness.
History of Mormonism and temples started with the Kirtland Temple in Ohio. Great sacrifices were made by early Church members to build and make this temple worthy of God's spirit. The women of the Church donated their china sets to be ground up and added to the plaster so the temple would glisten. The interior woodwork and adornments were the best workmanship possible. God accepted the Kirtland temple and it was dedicated to Him.
Unfortunately, in the history of Mormonism Church members had to abandon their first temple as a result of religious persecution. They built their next temple in Nauvoo, Illinois and also had to abandon it and flee mob persecutions.
Historically, Mormonism builds temples for places of worship. All people are invited to enter the temples of God as they covenant to obey God's words. Like baptism, the temple is a place to make sacred covenants with God. Adhering to these covenants will lead us to God just as the spires on temples point heavenward.

I love the strong spirit of the temples. The physical beauty of the temple simply supports the real heavenly spirit of Jesus Christ within its walls. I enter the temple for a respite away from the stresses of our world, to study the scriptures, to pray, and to listen for guidance when I need direction in my life.
